THE GOOD: Is there a more hot-or-cold hitter than Logan Morrison? He had the one bright moment on Monday, hitting a 3-run home run in the first inning. It was his third home run in the last five games. He also had a stretch of 3 games in June when he hit 4 home runs. He has 7 home runs in those 8 games. He has 6 home runs in the other 128 games. Wow.

THE BAD: Evan Longoria left the game after being hit in the hand…Matt Andriese is suddenly a complete mess. He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings on Monday. He has now allowed 7 runs in back-to-back starts and at least 5 runs in 4 of his last 5 starts. His ERA over his last 6 starts is 9.95.

THE TELLING: The Rays placed Hank Conger on waivers, designating him for assignment. The Rays also made more September callups, including Mikie MahtookSteve Geltz, Justin MarksRichie Shaffer, and Chase WhitleyTim Beckham has not been called back…Knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa pitched twice over the weekend, throwing 3 shutout innings on Monday. At 31, he is the oldest player to make his MLB debut with the Rays since Jim Morris, the high school coach-turned-big leaguer who later became the subject of the movie, “The Rookie.”…Alex Cobb returned to the mound on Friday, giving up 2 runs in 5 innings, striking out 7 and walking just 1.

    Boy, it is hard to give up on a season that could have been so different if......
    Looks like Alex Cobb got back just in time to give Andriese the rest of the year off. Duffy needs to be completely healed by spring. This team needs to be ready to play at the beginning of next season so we can see how good/bad it really is.
