All the Rays owned a Dickey last night!

RAYS 6, Blue Jays 3 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: In hindsight, maybe that brawl the Blue Jays had on Sunday with the Rangers was the best thing that could have happened to the Rays. At the time it seemed worrisome. The Jays were all psyched up. They were coming home and their fans were going to be all riled up. They were playing a division rival. All the ingredients for a massacre of the Rays seemed to be in place. Instead, the Jays just seemed flat all series. They didn’t play with that bravado that we are used to seeing. Maybe that brawl took more out of them than we knew. The Jays also did the Rays a huge favor: they woke up the sleeping giant, Logan Morrison. Teams never want to face a knuckleballer, but they really hate to see a knuckler when the offense is on fire. Nothing can screw a good rhythm up as much as a knuckleball. But that was fine, because LoMo was there. After picking up just 10 hits and no RBI in the first 35 games of the season, Morrison had 6 hits and 3 RBI in this series alone, including 3 hits last night. That also included his first home run of the season. That was followed by Desmond Jennings as the pair went back-to-back and a belly-to-belly.

THE BAD: Once again the Rays were carried by the long ball, hitting 3 home runs and if that doesn’t change, it will come back to haunt them. The big issue hopefully is just the absence of Logan Forsythe. Last night, the Rays 1-2 hitters (Brandon Guyer and Taylor Motter) went 0-10 with 4 strikeouts. Forsythe had a .398 as the Rays leadoff hitter this year. Everybody else has a combined OBP of .322 batting first. The home runs are nice. But the Rays need more production in front of the home runs.

THE TELLING: Brad Boxberger started and allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 1 inning in a rehab outing with Charlotte. He struck out 1…The Rays are now 19-19, 5.0 games behind the Orioles.

Nice hustle.

What's more "ona roll" lately(?), RaysIndex or the Rays offence...

  2. Gus says:

If the Rays score 6 or more, Cork will post.

Nice to see Morrison and Des contribute in Toronto.

Routs are so enjoyable -- I had almost forgotten how it felt to have one on the TV.
