MLB: Chicago White Sox at Boston Red SoxThe Rays are close to adding two more veterans with minor league contracts and invitations to Spring Training.

According to Marc Topkin, the Rays have already signed 32-year-old reliever Ronald Belisario who was recently waived by the White Sox. The right-handed Belisario had a 5.56 ERA in 62 appearances in 2014, but had a 3.54 FIP suggesting he wasn’t nearly as bad as his ERA suggests. He is also an extreme groundball pitcher and could be used as the need-a-double-play-in-the-6th-or-7th-inning guy.

Topkin also reports that the Rays are close to adding infielder Alexi Casilla. The 30-year-old spent most of the 2014 season in triple-A for the Orioles, hitting .264 with a .315 OBP. His last full season in the big leagues came in 2012 with the Twins.

  • Don’t expect any more major changes to the roster as Matt Silverman told that “maybe now is the time for tweaking of the roster.” []
  • The Rays had strong local TV ratings in 2014. The Bucs did not. [BI Sports]

  1. Mr. Smith 1980 says:

DeJesus should be the last piece they move, outside of adding 1 more semi-legit arm to the 'pen

  2. doug says:

    still need solid backup catcher

    • Geoff Peterson says:

Dejesus to Toronto for Navarro. Jays will definitely keep Martin and Thole

      • Mr. Smith 1980 says:

I know TFC has come a long way, but I don't want him back in the bay area (his time here apparently built in me a certain aversion to his style/face/lack of consistent talent).

        • Geoff Peterson says:

I understand but still think he's a viable option for a year or two until we develop our own starter. His bat has been a bot better and I could see him starting 30-35% of games.

  3. Dave L says:

So Curt Casali could be our opening day #2 catcher.

Its not so bad, because remember he was the back up catcher on our 2015 team which tied for AL East first place in the PECOTA projections league
