Josh SaleThe Rays have released Josh Sale, the 17th pick of the 2010 MLB draft, according to multiple reports.

Sale had been suspended three times by the Rays and played in just 224 games in the four seasons since being drafted.

The first suspension came in 2012 when Sale was one of several members of the single-A Bowling Green Hot Rods to be suspended for failed drug tests. Sale tested positive for methamphetamine and an amphetamine. Then, a week after being reinstated from that suspension, Sale had yet to play because of a stomach virus but was well enough to go to a strip club and posted a comment to Facebook about throwing coins at a stripper. He was suspended indefinitely and missed the entire 2013 season.

Last season, Sale was suspended a third time, this time for testing positive for a “drug of abuse.”

In parts of three seasons the 23-year-old Sale hit just .238 with a .332 OBP and 18 home runs and never advanced past single-A.

Another example of the "old regime's" inability to successfully draft quality players. The 2010 draft was a disaster.

Old regime is definitely a paranthetical phrase.

The guy at the top is gone but the entire structure and beneath him is intact, correct? What other changes in the talent evaluation/development staff of the Rays org have occurred since 2010?

The information MS will receive comes from the same guys who fed it to AF.

Definitely some luck involved in MLB drafts its not a science.

I don't reallyrics understand how you can logically make this argument given the many moves that have been made by Silverman that have essentially undone a good portion of the moves from Freidman. If anything this off sea proves that data can be interpreted in many different ways.

        You misread my arguement.

Besides AF who is gone from the scouting/talent evaluation/development food chain?

Matty isnt going to be out there evaluating high schoolers any more that Andy was.

We havent even had a draft.

The topic was draft and development of those assets.

They fired the west coast scouts responsible for drafting Sale last year, so there have been changes in the drafting and scouting dept beyond Friedman leaving.

Ok thanks. I wasnt making a statement of fact I was asking a question.

        Thanks for answering.

Link perhaps? To help with the details of the changes in scouting?

Note the picture: that will be the look he gives when we next see him at Johnny's Car Wash, wiping off the last of the love bugs from the grille of my Hyundai.
