today is the day once cited by JoeMa

it seemed a bit silly at the time but actually it was a good point.

50-50 was unrealistic but it was really where the Rays needed to be to make a run. So today we have a shot at 47-53 which seemed unattainable as well so hats off to them for the turnaround.

This run and the outstanding play of Zobrist and Price have been a godsend to the Rays to be able to deal from a position of strength, rather than weakness when Zobrist was injured, the Rays reeling and Price dealing up too many moonshots.

We are close enough to have hope but I think as we near the trade deadline things will sort themselves out. But dealing right now is when those two will have thier maximum value so it wouldn't surprise me. But at this point it would likely kill clubhouse morale in a streaking team.

I can relate to your logic, but sometimes the opposite effect happens as well. Sometimes a team sees the unloading as a personal affront that they're not good enough to win and they parlay that chip on their shoulder into over-performing to prove they can excel without the lost pieces.

Right now the Rays are like the hot blonde at the bar that keeps looking over at you with those come-hither eyes which convinces you that you've got a chance, but when you go over to make your move she takes a free drink and turns her back (not that that ever happened to me... cough, cough)

If the Rays split in St. Louis and come home and beat up on the Red Sox, how the world can you sell? Right now the Rays are 6 games out of a wild card spot. This is completely doable in my opinion.
