Wil Myers hit a pair of home runs for the Durham Bulls last night. The second one tied the game in the ninth inning (see video below). But it was the first one that has people in Durham buzzing.

In the seventh inning, Myers hit a ball off the top deck of the building beyond the left-center field wall. According to the announcers the ball was still on the rise when it hit the deck and it was the farthest home run they have ever seen at DBAP.

Unfortunately, the camera loses track of the ball, but based on the home run call, and watching the initial track of the ball, this is roughly how the ball traveled…

Wil Myers home run

And here is video of both home runs. You can make an argument that the second home run is hit just as hard as the first, only it was a line drive and barely cleared the wall…

I have been to a lot of games at the DBAP over the last decade or so, and there is only one other home run (Joel Guzman) that I have seen that was even close to the one Myers hit last night.

I was there the night Guzman hit the building, it was still under construction if I remember, similar spot but he may have hit the 3rd deck, can't remember for sure.

I wish I had seen this one live. That building wasn't there when Guzman hit his, so it's hard to compare, but based on the description (including Scott Pose) I'd have to say this could well be the longest homerun ever at the DBAP including longer than the Hessman (I think it was?) one. The ball also doesn't travel as well as it used to since the building went up, so it's quite the testament.

Nice to see him hitting even if he did have 3Ks tonight (night after).
