The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

RAYS 4, Angels 2 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: Matt Moore won back back-to-back starts for the first time since September, 2013. He only struck out 3 batters, but he allowed just 2 runs in 6.2 innings. We’ll take it…Erasmo Ramirez seems to be getting his groove back. After giving up 10 runs in his last 5 outings, covering 4 innings pitched, and looking tired, Ramirez has now pitched back-to-back solid outings. The latest was classic Erasmo, recording 4 crucial outs in the 7th and 8th innings, striking out 2 and allowing just one hit…Brad Miller has 7 home runs in his last 21 games and a career-high 12 on the season. As we have seen these season, power is not Miller’s problem. He has 4 of the Rays’ 11 longest home runs this season and there is no fluke in hitting long home runs…Through the first 36 games of the season, Logan Morrison was hitting .129 with 11 hits, no home runs, and no runs batted in. He also had 29 strikeouts. Morrison was a dumpster fire and we all wanted him gone. The one person who stuck with Morrison was Kevin Cash, in part because of injuries to other players, and in part because he thought Morrison just needed to find his groove. In the 46 games since, Morrison is hitting .292 with 9 home runs and a team-best 30 runs batted in. His latest big RBI came in the 4th inning on Monday when he broke a 1-1 tie with his 9th home run.

THE BAD: Simply put, the Rays need better consistency. They won a game yesterday. Nobody thought they wouldn’t win another game this season. But the fact remains that the Rays are still 3-16 in their last 19 games, even with the win. During that stretch, the Rays have also gone from 5.0 games back in the AL East and seemingly still in the race, to 13.0 games back and completely out of the race.

THE TELLING:Desmond Jennings has gone on the DL with a strained hamstring. Reliever Tyler Sturdevant was added to the roster to take his place…Alex Colome has been activated from the DL. He is 19-19 in save opportunities this season. The rest of the bullpen is 1-11…Taylor Motter was demoted to make room for Steven Souza who was activated from the DL…Alex Cobb will pitch for Charlotte on Wednesday, his first appearance in a real baseball game in almost 2 years. He is still on pace to rejoin the Rays in August…The All-Star teams will be announced tonight at 7:00…Wil Myers was named the NL Player of the Month for June. He hit .327 with 11 home runs, 19 walks, and just 15 strikeouts, in a pitchers park…[Syracuse 9, Durham 2] The Bulls managed just 3 hits, and none from the top 6 hitters in the lineup.

Yah, with ole' Wil on my fantasy team, it hurts to know our Rays were trigger happy, and we could of had the 7th best player (statistically according to ESPN Fantasy 2016 player ratings) in the league. And, Wade Davis has been THE best closer the baseball, Mike Montgomery is having a good season though we shipped him to Sea, and Rivera we got from SD we shipped to NYM for nothing, etc....
And, since the WS of 08', 2K is the only player we have starting that we drafted, which was a lucky 31st pick!

This is sort of a resistable force meeting a movable object series with the Rays facing a team with a worse record who is at this seasons nadir as well.

This team is going to set some kind of record for solo HR. I guess being last in team BA and first in whiff percentage leads to that.

I'll take a team with very good pitching and horrific hitting like we've had in recent years than alot of home runs and mediocre pitching. Some think its boring and chicks dig the long ball, etc but at least we were winning more than losing. Being on a pace for 95 loses is no fun to watch.
