Red Sox 8, RAYS 2 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: Brandon Guyer is back. There’s that. Guyer was activated from the DL with Jaff Decker being designated for assignment. So, expect more hit by pitches for the Rays.

THE BAD: The Rays finally won a game. The offense seemed to be starting to warm up, even before that win on Monday. But then the fourth inning happened and it was like that other Rays team had never left. The Rays loaded the bases with no outs. A Nick Franklin walk made the score 2-1 and it looked like the Rays were about to open the flood gates. But wait. The Rays’ catchers still have to bat. And sure enough, Hank Conger was due up. After getting ahead 2-0, he struck out. Logan Forsythe then flew out, but not deep enough to score a run. Then Brad Miller struck out looking to end the inning, and right then you knew the Rays were not winning this game.

THE TELLING: Alex Colome, who hasn’t pitched since June 19, is now on the DL with biceps tendinitis. Since the move is retroactive, Colome could be back as soon as Monday…Chris Archer is now 4-11 and is on pace to lose 23 games…David Price will be on the mound this afternoon for the Red Sox.

There is a lot going on here.
