Nick Franklin, part of the David Price trade, will be called up today now that the Durham Bulls season now over. In addition, pitchers Alex Colome and CJ Riefenhauser will also be promoted. Colome will start tonight’s game against the Yankees.

The Rays’ elimination number from the playoffs is now 4. Any combination of 4 Rays losses and/or Royals wins and the Rays will be officially eliminated.

The Rays are now 72-78 and would need to go 9-3 in the final 12 games to finish .500.


  • St. Pete mayor Rick Kriseman is “optimistic that the city and the Tampa Bay Rays can reach a deal by the end of the year on a site for a new stadium.” Good luck with that. []
  • Meanwhile, money once thought to be available for a new stadium in Tampa could end up going elsewhere. []
  • Joe Maddon says the team has been cheering Yunel Escobar from the dugout to counteract the boos from the Blue Jays fans noting that Escobar used to be bothered during return trips to Toronto. []
  • Al Lang Stadium will soon be converted into a soccer-only complex and baseball will likely cease to be played there. [TB Baseball Market]
  • DOWN ON THE FARM [boxscores] The Durham Bulls lost the Governors’ Cup Final, dropping game 5 to Pawtucket 4-1. Merrill Kelly started, striking out 7 in 5 innings, but giving up 3 runs. The Bulls did not score until a Jeremy Moore solo home run in the 9th inning.
