Josh Sale

Playing A Little Pepper

Outfield prospect Josh Sale, the Rays’ first-round pick in the 2010 draft, has been suspended for failing his second test for a drug of abuse. This is the third suspension for Sale. He missed the entire 2013 season finishing up a 50-game suspension for testing positive for methamphetamine and an amphetamine which was followed up with an indefinite suspension for “conduct detrimental to the organization.” Sale made disparaging comments about strippers during a facebook post. This latest suspension also means Sale has failed three drug tests since being drafted in 2010. A player is only suspended for a drug of abuse if they fail more than one test. 2008 first-round pick Tim Beckham and 2011 first-round pick Taylor Guerrieri have also been suspended for failing multiple tests for drugs of abuse.

  1. Ken H says:

LOL, another poster child of the Rays talented scouting department.

  2. Skateman says:

Most drugs should be legal, but you gotta play by the rules if you want to succeed.

  3. Gus says:

Funny that all the California scouts got fired, but the scouts who missed on these drug guys seem to be with the organization still. Hard to tell with high schoolers, which is maybe the reason you don't draft them in first round unless you are 99% sure.
