Playing A Little Pepper

Josh Lueke has finally been designated for assignment and Kirby Yates has been called up to replace him. As for Lueke, it is unlikely that he will be claimed off of waivers, so he will probably be reassigned to triple-A Durham. That means Lueke’s career with the Rays is probably not over. In addition to struggling in mostly low-leverage, white flag situations (5.64 ERA, 5.41 FIP) Lueke’s dark past continued to bring bad publicity to the Rays, which ironically grew even louder when some in social medai started complaining about the negative reactions to Lueke. The Rays couldn’t cut him then because it would have looked like they were reacting to the negative publicity. So they waited for it to die down and they did it now.

Why do most players from Hawaii wear #49?

    Lueke cut? 'bout time!

And when Hellickson comes back, send Odorizzi to the bullpen. He seems a natural there, if only because he can't go twice over the lineup as a starter.
