Casey Gillaspie, the first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays has signed and was introduced to the media prior to Tuesday’s game.

Gillaspie, whose brother Conor is a third baseman for the White Sox, received a signing bonus of $2.04 million and will immediately report to low-A Hudson Valley to begin his professional career.

Here is Gillaspie trying on a Rays jersey for the first time. The first thing you notice is just how big Gillaspie is. Wichita State listed him at 6-foot-4, 238 pounds and I believe it.

Rays Director of Scouting R.J. Harrison compares Gillaspie’s personality to that of Evan Longoria and says the slugging first baseman won’t have a problem adjusting to playing everyday.

Finally, here is Gillaspie taking questions from the media and talking about starting his pro caree.
