Erik BedardPlaying A Little Pepper

Ricky Nolasco will start for the Twins which could mean a big game for Matt Joyce. In his career, he is 3-6 with 2 home runs off of Nolasco. Interestingly, Logan Forsythe is not in the lineup, despite being 3-3 with a home run against Nolasco…The Rays will play their next 10 games on the road.

  1. chris says:

Please Alex come back soon. Unfortunately Bedard is not gonna be able to hold down the fort.

  2. Jason says:

It's time for Lueke and Bell to be DFA

  3. Rob says:

Bell, Leuke, Guyer, Bedard, and Forsythe have to go! There is a replacement in Durham for every one of them, and while those replacements may not be any better, they can't be worse and at least we can give them some major league experience.

    • Rob says:

Well - there is this: Forsythe got his first hit with a runner in scoring position - and it was a pinch hit too.

    • OriginalTom says:

I would not Lump Guyer in with the ret of those guys. He as only had about 20 plate appearances and he deserves more of an opportunity.

  4. Rob says:

Fuld had zero doubles for the Rays last year. He's hit two in this game.

    • Rob says:

And he's had 3 in the past two games against the Rays, which equals the total number of doubles he had for the Rays the past two seasons (274 ABs).

  5. Gus says:

Bell and Lueke are like Troy Percival coming back to life as two different awful pitchers.

I'd literally take any pitcher in Durham over those guys.

I fear that like 2009, this April will be one where we cost ourselves the division.

Driving home from the Trop, I listened to Maddon's comments on WDAE. He said the problem with the Rays staff, without naming names, was that they were not yet pitching to their potential. What a garbage answer from an honest man. I get Joe's code that you don't trash players in public, and I respect it. His assessment in incorrect in this case. Ramos, Lueke, Bedard and Bell are pitching to their potential. There's a reason why 29 teams passed on Bedard when he was released. He's terrible. 5 walks to the first 10 batters.
Bell was obtained cheaply, why? Because he's an overweight EX- closer. Ramos had been a reliable mid-innings reliever, he is not a starter. Lueke...ugh, all I can say.
Losing three quality starters would tax any team. It has certainly taxed the Rays. A .500 road trip would be a blessing right now.
