Joe is back with his postgame thoughts…

OK, so the way Rays ace David Price has pitched of late, just getting this guy a pair of runs is enough to chalk up a win, no?

How about three runs?

How about four runs?

How about five runs?

Well, the Rays did just that. The Rays got Price five runs and it still wasn’t enough. The Texas hex on the Rays continues, this time a stunning loss. Stunning in that for once the Rays bats showed up against the Rangers, but Price didn’t.

Hey, no knock on Price. Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don’t. Price didn’t. Tonight.

It was as simple as that. The Rays are going to need Price a whole lot more than five runs a game. Joe’s just hoping this was the final blip on Price’s resume this season.

Price can't be criticized too harshly for this loss because he has been lights out this year. During the broadcast, however, Brian and Dewayne were mentioning that during interviews Price always deflects talk about his stats and a potential Cy Young and focuses only on whether the Rays win. I couldn't help but notice tonight he kept looking back at the scoreboard while leaving the mound after every inning. I can't be sure what he was looking at (it could even have been the score or his pitch count), but I speculate that he was checking out his stat line.

I mentioned last week that the discussion changes every day. Last Thursday we were talking about the Rays catching the Yankees for the AL East. Now, they are 1/2 game out of the Wild Card and chasing Oakland and Baltimore.

    It happens

  4. Nick says:

the Rangers are just a bad matchup for Price. He likes to throw the fastball the Rangers like to hit it. He needs a different approach for them next time

  5. don says:

Also last week we were talking about how great the Rays pitching staff was and three games in a row they shit the bed..
Does Good pitching REALLY beat good hitting ask Nolan Ryan
when he was building the Rangers, he signed Hamilton, and got Beltra, pitching came later, Cy young Price can't beat them....
