Playing A Little Pepper

Was it a mistake to bench Matt Joyce last night against And Pettitte?

Matt Joyce has started 45 of the Rays 55 games this season and is on pace for 133 starts. Of course, that pace will come down a tad now that Desmond Jennings is back in the lineup. But even though many of us would love to see Joyce starting everyday, 125-130 starts is still about right for him. That puts him on pace to start about half the games with a lefty on the mound for the opposition. So if Maddon is going to sit Joyce 30-35 times, a crafty veteran like Pettitte is probably a time to do it…NO PROBLEM WITH THE MOVE

Luke Scott sitting tonite vs RHP Nova? Hes 1 for 3 with a homer lifetime? I would have sat him last nite AND tomorrow.

Not to be too negative or melodramatic but if we don't win tonite and with big CC the lefty up tomorrow and at the rate we are going......

Well this could be the last night we are in first place for a looooong time if we dont win! Go Rays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Don says:

Why don't you or some other Tampabay media type have the balls to ask Maddon that question? why ask us? AT least the Yankee fans will be happy Mr .150 is hitting again

    • Dave L says:

Speaking for myself only, I don't have access to JoeMa so I can't ask him. I am not a media type, i'm a sales rep professionally unrelated to sports entirely. I'm just a fan.

So in my case its not a lack of balls.

    • Rob says:

      Why don't you ask him?

  3. Rob says:

There's nothing like a Ray's lineup to get a struggling pitcher back on track.

  4. bucyea says:

It's called "egomania" IMO. The national media, and to a slightly lesser extent, the local media, has been strokin' JoeMa's ego for years to the point where he's become bigger than the team. Don't question the genuis or INSANITY of Maddon. He's a baseball savant, he's see things no mortal can and is NEVER wrong.
