Playing A Little Pepper

BJ Upton is batting second, and according to Sun Sports he loves the 2-hole. Is this going to be his regular spot moving forward?

Bossman is a streak hitter that is hitting well right now, so Joe Maddon is going to ride that train as long as possible. But we’re not sure Maddon likes the idea of having two righties at the top of the lineup. But until Longoria comes back and JoeMa can slot Carlos Pena or Ben Zobrist back in the 2-hole, this is Upton’s temporary home…FOR NOW

  1. Flash Jennings, LF
  2. BJ Upton, CF
  3. Carlos Pena, 1B
  4. Matt Joyce, RF
  5. Luke Scott, DH
  6. Ben Zobrist, 2B
  7. Will Rhymes, 3B
  8. Jose Molina, C
  9. Elliot Johnson, SS
  10. Hellickson, SP

Song to get you pumped up

Since the Rays are flying and in honor of Manchester City’s big win over ManU…

I dont know why Oakland used two LH relievers last night after we took the big lead but im glad they did. We have been tearing up RH and we need to keep it up. I expect Helli to hold them down. I f we can jump on Colon early and put up 4 or 5 runs in the first few innings the streak will continue.

I really like Upton batting in the 2 spot. Dont know what took so long. We need his speed at top of lineup. I love Joe, but this is one of the things I disagree with.

  3. I think one of BJ Upton's problems is that he feels a lack of respect. Since he has been here the 2 hole was dominated by Carl Crawford, BJ craves the respect that Carl had. BJ equates the #2 position with that respect. When Joe put BJ into that position last year, Upton was on fire. It could be the same this year, keep BJ in the 2 slot, and he becomes Carl Crawford or better.

Psychologists may have an explanation for this phenomena but Joe needs to go with what's working. If I were Joe, I would have the line up cards pre-printed with BJ Uptons name already in the second position. This simple act would help BJ blossom into the potential that everyone hoped he would reach someday.

BJ has been an enigma, his brilliant performance against Boston in our World Series playoff run is an example. He has the ability to carry this team on his back but how do you dial that in. I believe he has a fragile psyche that needs to be catered to.

There is a down side to this theory, if BJ truly blossoms, he will need to get paid.
