Playing A Little Pepper

Nick Cafardo speculated yesterday that Wade Davis will be trade bait at some point this season. What are the chances Big Dub will be traded before the trade deadline?

As is always the case, if somebody comes along and offers the Rays a deal they can’t refuse, they will trade Davis. But as long as the team is winning and in contention (and with two Wild Card teams, it is harder to be out of contention), the Rays are not going to actively shop Davis. The bullpen depth just isn’t that great, and Davis has been one of the bright points. More likely, the Rays will make a decision in the off-season, when more teams will be involved in the bidding…10%

  1. Sam Bliesner says:

I'd rather see Niemann traded and Torres brought up in his spot. But Niemann probably won't be asked for... too big a risk of injury.

    • Dave L says:

I think you are right and its good news for the Rays. We can afford to have a Niemann that misses some starts at some point with some live arms needing some mid season work to get some big league seasoning.

If no one is willing to take the risk to pay to make our 4th or 5th starter to be their No. 2 or 3, hey I'm happy to keep the big man! He's been a productive starter in my book.
