Baseball America has released their updated list of the top 50 prospects in baseball. There are three Rays prospects among the top 22 (number in parentheses is that player’s preseason ranking)…

3. Matt Moore, LHP (15)

20. Desmond Jennings, OF (22)

22. Hak-Ju Lee, SS (92)

A quick scan of the preseason list and we see five of the top ten prospects have been removed because they are no longer in the minors, including Jeremy Hellickson, who was 6th.

Still, Moore’s jump from #15 to #3 is very impressive. He is also now the highest ranked pitcher.

Even more impressive is Lee’s move from #92 to #22. He has been tearing up the Florida State League. It will be interesting to see if he is part of the mid-season prospect shuffle that usually occurs in mid-July.

With so many players at the top of the list no longer eligible, it is a bit disappointing to see that Jennings only moved up two spots. It is just further evidence that the experts are souring on this kid.

RHP Chris Archer fell out of the top 50. He was 27th prior to the season.

    No link?

  2. Andy says:

Sweet. Now if we keep each of them in the minors for the next 5 years, they won't be arbitration-eligible until 2020!!! *sarcasm*

  3. John S says:

Another one to watch.. Oscar Hernandez... Very very early.. But he has been performing at an alarming rate in VSL.. Highest rated prospect in that league and is very young for it....

Look for a stateside appearance sooner rather than later and further add to low level minor league depth at the catcher position.
