The GBT – The Good, The Bad and The Telling sandwich, where The Bad is nice and lean and the The Telling is ripe.

THE GOOD: Lil Sammy Fuld. Another 3-hit night for Fuld. That is 4 on the season. Only Prince Fielder (5) and Starlin Castro (6).

THE BAD: Adam Russell. The danger of an extra-inning game is that you end up with pitchers in high-leverage situations that you hope they will never see…Ben Zobrist. That is the second time in a week that Zobrist has dove for a ball, come up well short, and the ball got by him. HORRIBLE. And how close was he? Not. At. All. That was the 4th inning, and the Blue Jays would tie the game on with the next batter…Felipe Lopez. Earlier this year, Lopez got himself in hot water when he flipped the bat towards the mound after hitting a home run. And last night BJ Upton had to steal second twice because the first one was nullified after Lopez’ bat hit the catch. But that paled in comparison to what he did in the 11th, when he failed to run hard on a ball that he would have been safe on. Joe Maddon pulled him from the game after that half-inning.

THE TELLING: Johnny Damon passes Julio Franco for 69th on all-time hit list with 2,587…2B Jayson Nix had to be pulled from the game after an aggressive slide by Sean Rodriguez trying to break up a double-play. Was it dirty? (Here is a view of the slide) Well, if the roles were reversed, we would be pissed…It looks like Dan Johnson will be the first baseman against lefties, with Casey Kotchman starting against righties.

  • Johnny Damon has a cracked bone in his finger, but plans to play through it. []
  • Evan Longoria forgot a very important piece of luggage for the trip to Canada. [The Heater]

  • DURHAM 6, Charlotte 5: Brian Baker gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 3 innings…Rob Delaney, Dane de la Rosa, and Brandon Gomes combined for 6 innings, and just 1 run. They struck out 8 and walked 1…CF Desmond Jennings was 0-3 with his 5th stolen base…RF Brandon Guyer hit his 3rd home run of the year, a 2-run shot.
  • Jackson 2, MONTGOMERY 1: Shane Dyer held Jackson to 1 run in 4 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 3…Matt Bush pitched 2 scoreless innings, but walked 3 and gave up 2 hits…SS Tim Beckham walked and had 1 of the Biscuits 3 hits.
  • St. Lucie 7, CHARLOTTE 2: Jake Thompson gave up 4 runs in 5 innings. He struck out 3 and walked 2…SS Hak-Ju Lee went 2-4 with a walk…2B Tyler Bortnick was 0-4, but stole his 4th base of the season.
  • BOWLING GREEN @ Lake County: postponed

Mike Ekstrom…oops

  1. Joe says:

Lopez doesn't hit or field. That leaves base running and....what a mess. Just let Sean play 3B(I was pissed at your plays 2B also last night btw) until Longo is back and DFA Lopez. Congrats Kotchman.

  2. Jim says:

I was really surprised there wasn't any payback towards Rodriguez after that slide. I thought for sure he'd get one in the ribs or taken out at 2B. Wonder if it'll possibly come tonight...

  3. Alex says:

Our outfielders need to stop diving. Other than Sam Fuld, all of the outfielders dive like little girls. Either lay out for it or just stop the ball. Joyce and Zobrist have let way to many balls by them already trying to dive/flop

  4. CC says:

I'm pretty sure the Rays can find a replacement for Russell. Should not be to hard. Dude's got nothing. Let him aggravate some other teams fans. And can we please stop the Dan Johnson experiment. Can you say liability?
