On this date 64 years ago, Jackie Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers. And tonight every member of the Rays will wear number 42 as part of the league-wide tribute.

In conjunction with Jackie Robinson Day, Major League Baseball has set up a website, Iam42.com, where players and fans can contribute their thoughts on Jackie Robinson and what he did for the sport. From the Rays, David Price and BJ Upton were among those that have contribute videos. You can see those videos here. [Iam42.com]

And tangentially related, my Chart of the Day for Business Insider looks at how Robinson’s debut was really just the first crack in a color barrier that was not fully broken for 12 more years. [BusinessInsider.com]
