Alex Speier of WEEI spoke with a baseball source that says the Rays are one of several teams interested in reliever Manny Delcarmen, who most recently pitched for the Rockies.

He split the 2010 season between Boston and Colorado, posting a 4.99 ERA and an even worse 5.51 FIP in 52.1 innings.

Delcarmen, you might remember, is better known among Rays fans as the pitcher that gave Pat Burrell his one shining moment in a Rays uniform.

  1. If that guy stinks up the Rays clubhouse this year... I'm going to have to hurt somebody. There's a reason I would pray that Francona would bring him in every Rays RedSox game. And believe you me, the Yankees, Red Sox, Jays, and Orioles would all love to see MCD show up in Rays gear...

And how the hell could this guy even get a look when MFIKY is still available....

    • Tone says:

He will get a look over Soriano because ownership will not spend any money. There were plenty of deals to be had for good players, they just don't want any. Now all we have to hope for is an amazing return for Shields or spring training invites to turn into solid gold. I don't think either scenario is happening; more likely they trade the best post-season pitcher who is also the second best "season" pitcher for a bunch of unproven prospects(Garza). As things are shaping up it looks like we are the 2010 Oakland A's at best.(.500 because of great rotation)

      Who is MFIKY?

  2. Rob says:

Lots of teams show lots of interests in lots of players. Sometimes they do it so the agent of the player they want feels some pressure. Going from "showing interest" in Delcarmen to declarations about ownership is a bit of a reach.
