The Rays announced that Dan Johnson has been named the organization’s Minor League Player of the Year and Jeremy Hellickson was named the Pitcher of the Year.

In addition, the Rays also announced the MVPs for each of their minor league affiliates:

INF/OF Elliot Johnson (Durham Bulls, AAA)
RHP Alex Cobb (Montgomery Biscuits, AA)
LHP Matt Moore (Charlotte Stone Crabs, A)
INF Tyler Bortnick (Bowling Green Hot Rods, A)
1B Phil Wunderlich (Hudson Valley Renegades, SS-A)
LHP Enny Romero (Princeton Rays, Rookie)
RHP Pedro Silvestre (Gulf Coast League Rays)
INF/OF Ariel Soriano (Dominican Summer League Rays)
OF Nahum Hernandez (Venezuelan Summer League Rays)

Johnson was second in the International League with a .319 average. He also had a .375 OBP with 11 home runs and 30 stolen bases. His defensive flexibility will likely land him a job on the Rays bench next season.

Cobb, the Rays 4th round pick in 2006 was 7-5 with a 2.71 ERA (4th in the Southern League). He was also 3rd in the SL with 128 strikeouts in 119.2 innings.

Moore, the Rays 8th round pick in 2007, led all minor league pitchers with 208 strikeouts in 144.2 innings. Only three other pitchers had more than 150 strikeouts.

Bortnick, the Rays 16th round pick in 2009, hit .303 with a .408 OBP and 39 steals before a late-season promotion to Charlotte.

  1. Chris D says:

Unfortunately, E. Johnson is a free agent. Would seem like he'd be gone given the Rays haven't made use of him so far. I'm sure some other team can find him a spot.
