We’ll let Pepsi explain…

N.Y., July 13, 2010 – Starting today, the Tampa Bay Rays along with 14 teams across Major League Baseball are asking fans to join them in making a difference in America’s communities. As part of the Pepsi Refresh Project, each Club has outlined an idea they are passionate about and will vie for fan votes and an ultimate $200,000 Pepsi Refresh grant to fulfill the project. Fans have until Tuesday, August 17 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, to cast their votes at www.mlb.com/PepsiRefresh or via text by typing RAYS to 76462 for the ideas they believe should receive a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project.

The Rays and Evan Longoria are looking to encourage youth to adopt healthy lifestyles at an early age, to help reduce their cancer risks. Through Moffitt Cancer Center’s KIP (Knowledge is Power) Kidz Program, children of all ages and backgrounds receive health education and participate in fun activities for a healthy future. KIP Kidz works with children in Head Start Programs and community centers to integrate the visual and performing arts with cultural appreciation in an effort to strengthen self-esteem and lead kids toward making good choices throughout their lives. Through this program, more than 800 children have pledged to be smoke-free. KIP Kidz is offered in English and Spanish.
“Everyone knows that cancer impacts millions of lives every year, so we want to show kids how they can proactively take steps now to reduce their risk of cancer later in life,” said Longoria. “The Pepsi Refresh Project grant makes voting easy for fans. I hope every Rays fan steps up and votes to make life better for the next generation in our community.”

The link above is not working for us and we cannot find a different link. Anybody else have any luck?

Try typing the website out as it is instead of copy and paste. Worked for me.

Which link isn't working? I followed a twitter link last night and have been able to vote, though my screen reader couldn't access the description of the project, so I'm glad you guys described it. Here's where I've been voting. With the screen reader, I find the vote now link, and then there's a frame at the bottom of the page where you solve the CAPTCHA. (Great audio version for the visually impaired). Been voting even though I didn't know what it was. Figured Evan wouldn't have a stupid idea. 😉
