Just a few quick links on Sammy Sosa’s birthday. He is 41. His face is not.

  • We did a Q&A about the Rays off-season for Simon on Sports. [Simon on Sports]
  • Michel Hernandez has signed a minor league deal with the Orioles. With 4 catchers on the 40-man roster and the chance the Rays will add another veteran, there was little or no hope of Hernandez seeing any big league time with the Rays in 2010. [Baltimore Sun]
  • Chris Richard has declined his triple-A assignment and has chosen to become a free agent.
  • The Rays and Cubs continue to discuss trading Pat Burrell for Milton Bradley, but nothing sounds hopeful as both sides are still far apart on the most important issue, money. [MLB Trade Rumors]
  • John Romano addresses Carl Crawford’s future with the Rays and says a long-term extension “will probably never happen.” [St. Pete Times]

  1. Don says:

Good for M. Hernandez....He is a better catcher than Navarro and Zuan both...and if he gets the chance to play every day you will see...he will help the Orioles!
Sammy Sosa is a cheat....white face....brown (cork) bat!
John Romano knows about as much about what is going to happen with CC as the bat boy does....all speculation on his part...If he's wrong I'm sure he will write another article saying how stupid he was!! CC will get a chance to sign long term with the Rays for $10 mil+ yr....whether he accepts that is up to his AGENT..... Rays owners off the hook because they offered!

yeah your right there GM don, john romano doesn't know anything about the rays. no where near as much as you do. he must be a cheap ass also. does this sound like anything i said?

"When you are a low-revenue team, it's pretty hard to justify committing 25 percent of your payroll to any one player, particularly one who isn't hitting in the middle of the order."

back to your fantasy baseball GM don.

  2. Don says:

Copy this post....keep it over the winter...see who is right ...Me or Romano....Save your Pennies...a seat is going to cost you $10 next year!
