Notes from Down on the Farm

  • The Rays released Wade Townsend. Townsend was the Rays first round pick in 2005 but never pitched above double-A battling a series of injuries. His latest, Tommy John surgery, proved to be too much for Townsend to come back from…Wade was also a high school classmate of Mrs. Professor and my sister-in-laws. One question we could always count on when we got together for meals was “How is Wade doing?” and “When will he be in he majors?” So if you will excuse us, we have to go break the bad news.
