APTOPIX Japan World Baseball ClassThe Rays had the day off yesterday so this would be a good time to go a little outside the box. We would be remiss if we did not mention the passing of Paul Harvey, the man we consider the original blogger.

Harvey often worked with stories that flew under the radar knowing that the news that was presented was not always the news that most people were talking about. And he would often take a very popular story and find a new angle, like the time I heard him tell the life story of the iceberg that sank the Titanic.

And quite frankly…what is more blog than that?

  • Alex Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his hip and will miss a good chunk of the season. At this point the Yankees are hoping that rest will get him back on the field, but eventually he will need surgery. [MLB Trade Rumors]
  • Growing up in the Bay Area, the ballpark we traveled to the most during spring training was Dunedin to watch the Blue Jays. There was just something about the most exciting outfield in baseball at the time that included George Bell, Jesse Barfield and Lloyd Moseby. Oh yeah, and there were all those funny Canadian accents in the stands. So we were obviously a little jealous that Her Rays ventured out to watch JP Howell and Team USA take on the Jays. [Her Rays]
  • Joe Maddon says Fernando Perez batted about .700 last season in triple-A when bunting from the left side, but for various reasons that has yet to click in big league action. [MLB]
  • The Reds Ain’t S#!t compared to the Rays. [Bugs and Cranks]
