Has there been any word about any relapse by Baldelli? Because it seems like he's found a miracle cure or something. The Rays are going to have a pretty hard decision if he keeps playing alright with no ill effects. Has he played the field at all?

  2. Anonymous says:

I don't think Rocco has played the field yet, and I dont think that he has played two days in a row. I does seem like he's putting up decent #'s a Vero.

It would be nice to have him with the big club at some point this year, though it's worked. I'm not a big fan of this, RF thing. Gomes, or Hiske play the first 6-7 innings, then Gross, or Ruggiano have to take over 'cause Gomes or Hinske are a defensive liablity, Or, we start off with Gross and some had to PH for him in the late innings cause we are down in the 8th or 9th.

Oh well, as long as we keep winning I guess I really don't care...

  3. The Professor says:

one of our regular commenters (Robert) attended a Vero game recently with Rocco in the lineup. He said that Rocco wasn't even close to running at full speed.

i dont think we necessarily need to see him play the field bc he could easily slot into the lineup as the right handed DH. but i think we do need to at least hear that he is running without restriction and we are not close to that yet.

  4. Robert Rittner says:

In yesterday's game he did slide hard into second trying to break up a double play. After his last AB when he doubled he looked very winded (hunched over at 2B) and was replaced with a pinch runner. Otherwise, he continues to lope to first base.

I don't think he is anywhere near ready to go full out.

  5. Charles says:

There's some limit to how long he can be on rehab before they make a decision, correct? If he's not ready by then, do they have any other options besides bring him up or DFA?

  6. The Professor says:

i am still trying to figure that out. according to my calcs the Rays still have a minor league option on Rocco so i *think* they can just option him to the minors. Of course, then he takes a spot from somebody else.

but the Rays beat writers are discussing this like he doesn't have any options left (even though they have never actually stated that) or maybe he has a special provision in his contract?? i am really not sure.
