Steven Souza thought he had hit a go-ahead 2-run home run in the ninth against the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. Instead, Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar caught the ball on the warning track and it was game over.

But that is when the fireworks started and it was all because of a weird misunderstanding.

Here is the paraphrased version. You can see the video below (you can get all the relevant quotes from Marc Topkin):

Souza stood at home plate a little too long (in his own words) to watch the fly ball.

Jays catcher Russell Martin apparently tried to compliment Souza, saying something along the lines of “I thought you got that one.”

“I just told him he crushed that ball,” Martin said after the game. “I thought he got it (for a homer).”

Souza didn’t hear what Martin said and thought he was angry about Souza watching the ball too long.

Souza says he went to apologize, to say “my bad, you’re right, I shouldn’t have done that.”

“I thought Russ was saying something about it, which would have been on me, totally,” Souza said. “And I was saying, ‘Dude, I’m sorry, I thought I got it.'”

Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki sees Souza and Martin talking and thinks they are yelling at each other and comes running in to set the world on fire.

According to Souza, Tulo said something “below the belt.” That’s when Souza got angry, at Tulowitzki and the benches cleared.

Eventually, order was restored. Souza even sought out Martin to clear the air and again say “my bad.”

Baseball. It’s amazing.

Once again, how much effort is going into this site/blog? Tim Tebow, Derek Shelton, and now a wannabe fight. If this site/blog isn’t profitable, or it takes up too much time, then shitcan it. Letting it die a slow death and feeding us BS filler stories every other day isn’t what anyone that follows this site desires or deserves. But hey, you get clicks/hits just from people seeing if you have actually posted anything new. Clicks/hits without actually posting anything is great while it lasts but it will end.

Maybe it’s time to take old yeller out behind the barn………

Brad Boxberger has reverted to his old ways before he was injured, and he's lost any fire in had in his bones. Have you noticed that in his last 7 games he has a 5.68 ERA? Maybe I'm being too critical but here's a guy who should shut down opponents in the 8th and he's not doing it consistently.

So Morrison is out for the rest of the season? Too bad for him. He's been a disappointment, a major disappointment. So have Dickerson and Sousa, Jr.

Dickerson is arbitration eligible after this season. What does that mean? Does it mean he and the Rays must negotiate or can Dickerson just go elsewhere? He's not a free agent. Is he worth keeping? He has a career high in strikeouts and a career low in batting average.
