Oswaldo ArciaThe Rays have acquired outfielder Oswaldo Arcia in a deal with the Minnesota Twins.

Arcia had been designated for assignment by the Twins a week ago. The Twins received an undisclosed amount of cash in the deal.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Rays placed Andrew Bellatti on waivers, designating him for assignment.

With all the injuries to outfielder, the Rays had to make a move and this one was cheap.

Arcia played parts of each of the last four seasons with the Twins. The 25-year-old, left-handed bat, is a sub-par defender who can play either of the corner outfield positions.

At the plate, he was hitting just .214 with a .289 OBP this season and 4 home runs in 32 games. His best season came in 2014 when he hit 20 home runs in 103 games, so he does have some pop in his bat. But he struck out in 40.4% of his plate appearances this season and walked in just 8.8%. Those are the sort of numbers that get a player DFA’d.

    What is even the point?

  2. Chris says:

Wow. They could've gotten me for less money. Even I could get lucky 1 out of 5 times at the plate and my defense is sub par to say the least.

  3. Geoff Peterson says:

I'm guessing this is AAA depth and not someone who sees the field without another rash of injuries.

  4. brent says:

Maybe they could of saved the money for thier new ballpark fund, the only positive news to come this year...

  5. Ken J says:

Where is Joey Butler ? We need him !

  6. UNCLE FRED says:

I told my wife that the rays just acquired an outfielder for cash. She asked me who the new manager is going to be!

An improvement over Jennings and Motter I suppose.
