When it comes to triggering a pizza discount for the home-town fans, the Rays have one of the worst deals going.

As the official pizza of Major League Baseball, Papa John’s has partnered with 21 teams for pizza promotions. For the Rays, if they score six or more runs, you get 50% off your online order the next day.

How likely are you to get that discount? Not very and, according to FiveThirtyEight.com, it is one of the worst deals going.

The actual deals are determined by the market. Some teams trigger the discount simply by winning a game. In the case of the St. Louis Cardinals, that happens 52.9% of the time. In other cases, a team must score a certain number of runs or they must scores a certain number of runs and win the game. In the case of the Rays, they score 6 runs just 12.1% of the time. That ranks 18th out of the 21 deals.

The only deals worse are the Rangers (7 runs), Astros (win on Tuesday), and the Braves (6 runs).

The Rays do still have the 10 strikeouts deal. But that is for a Subway Wawa sandwich and you still have to do the awkward dance into a local Kane’s store just to get the voucher before going to Subway. The Rays have struck out 10 batters 28.9% of the time this year. That gives fans a 41.0% chance of hitting at least one of the deals which is more in line with some of the better pizza deals going. However, we don’t know if other teams have additional food-discount triggers like the Rays do.

Of course, all of this ignores the fact that it is still Papa John’s pizza, and well, nobody should be forced to eat that too often. So maybe the deal isn’t that bad after all.

The strikeouts deal is now for a Wawa sandwich, so a slight improvement. Still have to jump through the Kane's hoops though.

Love this...I say something to that effect every time the broadcasters bring it up. That is some seriously bad pizza.

Another great "outside-the-(pizza)box" article, I been eating a lot of PJ pizza lately, the large 2 topping for only $4! I remember when you got a free pizza when they threw 10 Ks, PJ would rarely collect the coupon, so I would get 5-10 free pizzas from a coupon, lol. The Kanes thing is stupid, I never give'em my real info...

The funniest part is, how many people spend twice the amount at PJ in Central & North Florida when they wouldn't have to? Like two people paying different prices by thousands for the same car...
