Blake SnellBlake Snell is being called up to start for the Rays on Saturday. Marc Topkin was the first to report.

With the Rays using Erasmo Ramirez in Thursday’s win over the Red Sox, the Rays needed an extra starter in the Yankees series.

Snell, the Rays’ top prospect, is the 14th-best prospect in baseball, according to ESPN. He is also the reigning Minor League Player of the Year.

The lefty went 15-4 with a 1.41 ERA in 25 appearances (23 starts) at three levels last year, including 6-2 with a 1.83 ERA in nine triple-A starts. This season Snell has 21 strikeouts in 14.1 innings over three starts with Durham. He has a 2.51 ERA.

Sweet X 2. Excited to see the kid. On another subject, does LoMo have options left? Seems a stint at Durham might be in order.

Late in 2010, Andrew Friedman picked up Brad Hawpe, who was basically roster filler before leaving and becoming a class B FA. Andrew got him * because he was gonna be a class B*.

The supplemental pick we got for Brad freaking Hawpe became the Snellzilla.

    All hail Andrew Friedman.

Can we PLEASE put our ego's side, and grasp that Miller & Morris are batting a combined .174, lets let the better players play! Can Cory play SS?

Snell looked great. He is showing a lot of promise. Morrison finally got a hit. The bullpen was pathetic. Doesn't Cedeno know you can't come late into a game in NY and not throw strikes? Get the dang ball over the plate. I hate losing in the bottom of the 9th. Frustrating game. NY won because of mistakes from pitchers and catcher, and because we still can't hit worth a flip.
