USATSI_8777154_154511044_lowresThe Rays were reportedly one of the teams bidding for the services of free agent catcher Tyler Flowers. However, Bob Nightengale reports that Flowers will sign with the Atlanta Braves.

Flowers is a plus-defensive catcher who spent parts of the last seven seasons with the Chicago White Sox. Last season, he hit .239 with 9 home runs.

Bryan Hoch had reported that Flowers was deciding between three offers, including the Rays and Yankees.

  1. Gus says:

Sometimes the best signings are the ones you don't make.

  2. Edward says:

They lost out because they didn't even put a bid. Does anyone think the Rays actually do things at the Winter meetings?

  3. MERRILL says:

Starting to look like FO doesn't want to win.

  4. MERRILL says:

What we need is more catcher. Montreal here we come.

  5. Greg says:

Heard this, but seriously, with Casali, Rivera and Conger under contract, I think we have enough catchers.

Cork, are we going to be cutting loose Rivera even though he's under contract for 2016? we're not carrying 3 catchers, are we?
