Cleveland 6, RAYS 2 (boxscore)

THE GOOD: Todd Kalas is a pro. While interviewing Garrett Whitley somebody started waiving a vuvuzela in front of Kalas. He managed to snap the instrument in half and never lost a beat asking his question.

THE BAD: And for the third time in the last 8 games an opposing pitcher had a perfect game into the 6th inning or later. The Rays finished with a whopping 2 hits. It was also the 10th time this year the Rays had 4 hits or fewer.

THE TELLING: After the game, the Rays optioned Kirby Yates to Durham and put Ronald Belisario on waivers. Preston Guilmet and CJ Riefenhauser were called up to take their places. It is interesting that both moves were made last night since the Rays still need to make another move after tonight’s game in order to activate Matt Moore. Designating Belisario for assignment should clear space on the 40-man roster for Moore. But somebody else will need to demoted…The Rays announced before the game that they have signed first-round pick Garrett Whitley, an outfielder. Whitley received the MLB-recommended slot bonus of $2.96 million (per Jon Heyman)…The Rays are 42-37 and tied with the Orioles for first place. The Yankees are a half-game back and the Blue Jays are 1.0 game back.

Anyone know what the record is for fewest hits in a 4-game series? I think the Rays are trying to break it.
