John JasoThe Rays have found another answer to their lack of left-handed pitching, sending cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers for left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno. More importantly for the rest of the roster, it means John Jaso is not returning to the lineup anytime soon.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Cedeno, the Rays moved Jaso to the 60-day disabled list. This is significant because it means Jaso won’t eligible to come off the DL until June 6.

When Jaso first injured his wrist on a slide into second base on Opening Day, an MRI revealed no structural damage and he was initially listed as day-to-day. It’s clear now that the injury was much worse than first feared and it is going to be a while before Jaso plays in his second game since returning to the Rays.

Meanwhile, Cedeno was designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week, just two days after acquiring him for cash from the Nationals after they designated him for assignment.

Cedeno has pitched in parts of five seasons with the Astros and Nationals. He has a career ERA of 5.24 in 41.0 innings with 8.8 strikeouts per 9 innings.

They could have put Jaso on the 60-day DL when they brought up Teaford, adding him to the 40-man. But they decided to DFA Dykstra instead.

Interesting that they either thought (a) no-one was going to grab Dykstra; or (b) they'd rather risk Dykstra getting grabbed rather than put Jaso on the shelf for another month; or (c) Jaso's injury only just now became apparent???

Just as the all RH Jays made the LH RP need not urgent, the usual lefty laden Yanks lineup built for the right field jet stream in thier ball park, makes sure Cedeno and Teaford (if he is on the 25 man) will see some action in this series.

With Ellsbury and Gardener leading off expect to see Xavier brought in late to face them tonite if its a close game.

Why make this trade when they have Jordan Norberto in AAA?

After last night's performance Teaford clearly is not the answer. LHP giving up two knocks to LHB is not what Cash was looking for.
