The Tampa Bay Rays officially announced the 3-team, 11-player trade with the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres.

One new wrinkle is that reliever Brandon Gomes has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. Burch Smith, Rene Rivera, and Steven Souza will all be added to the 40-man roster.

Also, the Padres are apparently close to trading Ryan Hanigan to the Red Sox according to Jeff Passan.

Here is a fancy graphic.

They need to add another arrow as Hannigan was flipped to the Sox for Middlebrooks.

With Rays projected revenue to outstrip its costs by what? $25M? $35M? so far---- can't we afford to buy a catcher? Navarro is available. 1 year at $5M What woruld we have to give up to get him? Not much I bet. He always hits, relatively speaking. Hell on our team he could be a backup catcher and get some serious time at DH likely.

Did you follow the Rays when T.F.C. was still here?

I dont know what a TFC is, sorry Smith, you need to splain me.

But I remember when Navarro played for us, he made the All Star game although that was a bit premature. We were actually an offensive juggernaut relatively speaking in those days. He wasnt as bad as Jaso as a receiver. Elaborate on his deficiencies please because they are not so self evident to me.

We are so offensively challenged now that I think as a backup catcher he might actually be the best DH option on many days.

Did you see Corks depth chart? Logan Forsythe and Nick Franklin will be DHing. I'd take Navarros bat over those little guys. Are you comfortable with that kid we have at back up catcher?

I'm with you on Navarro. He hustles and is a good hitter, especially for a catcher. I'd like to see him back in a Rays uniform.
