Playing A Little Pepper

The Rays begin a 3-game series in Fenway Park tonight. This is the first series between the two teams since 2006 in which both teams were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. The Yankees are not yet eliminated but could be as early as tomorrow. When that happens it will mark the first time since 1993 in which both the Yankees and Red Sox failed to make the playoffs…The Rays need just 40 strikeouts to break the single-season record for most strikeouts by a pitching staff in one season. That record was set by the Tigers way back in 2013. Unfortunately for the Rays, the Indians are probably going to get there first as they need just 26 strikeouts to break the record.
