The more you dig into this trade, the better it looks. First off though not prospects they are young.

Smyly is a solid 4 or 5 for us now and he's further along than Jake O was and both were missing one pitch. The Rays signature change up. With it he could surpass Acher and Moore and be a #2 fairly soon.

According to BR he is entering the 1st year and it says he's a 4th year arb guy like Myers will be so we get him now plus age 30 right?

Franklin could be an almost Zobrist but with more power. By all accounts he is the equal of Zo def so that's all u can ask. Solid and chrome free. We could always use more power at every position he plays. And the rays wanted this guy badly so I'm comfortable with that.

Again BR has him at 2 years pre Arb plus 3 Arb he's Boras so that means he ain't here more than 4 years and he has trade value for his 5th year

I wouldn't be surprised if in the offseason Smyly shows an aptitude for picking up the change up (to add to the FB curve and splitter) that that buy his Arb years and add on another year to get him to age 29

And the Adams kid looks like he's everything a younger Rays FO dreamed another promising 18 yo SS would be...... Of course it's early but to be raking and the youngest guy in your league is impressive

So that's 4 years of Franklin plus a trade year. And a minimum of 3 years of Smyly plus a trade year both in thier primes.

All for 1 month (max for us not Det) and 1 year of relatively cheap David Price.

I'm already conceding 2014 and 2015 the Tigers 'win' the trade In a land slide. If they win a WS with Price they win forever

But the Rays can win too

However their injury risk is much greater in that one year. If all 4 principles are limited next year due to injuries they are screwed and we have plenty of time to recover and we are saved from a catastrophic event of making a run with a final year of neutered Price and getting zero when his contract expires.

Dave L, All us Rays fans can do at this point IS be optimistic about the trade. I'll take :) as a three starter and would be elated if he's more than that. Concern here is who is gonna be the innings eaters moving forward. If Cobb and somebody can start going 7 on average it will help lessen the loss of Price.
Nothing more to say on Adames until he settles in. It'll be a couple of years before we know his worth so why not hope for the best.
Franklin I'm not sure about. Tommy Rancil of DRays Bay posted an interesting article on Franklin's short comings, definitely worth a read.
Speaking of prospects, Gillispie, this years 1st rounder, also showing up nicely so far. College kid, so maybe his MiLB time won't be long.
    Go Rays.

Yes I found the indignation over who we could have gotten and when is pretty comical. The alternatives are just a Rorschach wish list of the commentors. Who can argue against those ghosts?

Its also interesting to hear of the consensus of GM's who were surprised the Rays didnt get more. Since we heard of up to 10 teams with interest, we can only assume the more included their spurned offers.

The current under contract and control group for 2015 looks pretty solid the only big hole is a second catcher.

My one comment continues to be (for those that wanted to KEEP Price) Do you REALLY think this team was built to go deep into the playoffs??
