Playing A Little Pepper

Wil Myers has been diagnosed with a stress fracture and will likely miss at least 2 months. He will be in a cast for 5-6 weeks and then begin rehab…Matt Joyce is in right field tonight. However, Joe Maddon told the media prior to tonight’s game that Ben Zobrist and Kevin Kiermaier will get most of the starts in right field while Wil Myers is on the DL.

Sure wish Jennings and/or Myers would learn to communicate. By the way, Jessie Hahn is starting for the Padres tonight. Curious to see what he does. He is facing Gerritt Cole too, so that means it’s a Cole-Hahn matchup.

  2. Skateman says:

Know who’s really awesome? Jose Molina. Forget about trying to advance the runner, please. Just don’t take the bat off your shoulder to avoid the double play. Looking forward to seeing him in a Ray’s uniform next year, too.

Your team is mired in a horrible slump, your team has a man on 1B down 1-0 in the 8th. A player hustles out an infield hit. Here’s your choice as a manager: have a 260 lb. catcher batting .120 something bunt the player over or use Jennings to accomplish the task. C’mon Maddon enthusiast’s make the call.

    • OriginalTom says:

If Maddon has Jennings bunt the runner than who pinch hits for the pitcher? The only gus left on the bench are Solis (who doe snot have a career hit), Forsythe (who is struggling) and Srod (who cannot hit righties. I also feel Escobar could have done a better job of breaking up that double play.

      • ken says:

Hmmm Tom, Forsythe is Maddon’s guy. He’s started plenty of games against RH’s lately. Now he’s more of a risk than Molina? Bunting Molina was a joke. Face it. SRod/Forsythe could have bunted also, leaving Jennings to face a guy he’s batting .410 against. C’Mon man, you’re desperate for a run and you rely on Molina? No other MLB manager would make that move. Fact is, no other MLB manager would have Molina on the roster.

        • OriginalTom says:

I think your last sentence is the most relevant to the entire situation. If the Rays cannot count on Molina to bunt a runner over his days on the roster are probably numbered. The thing of it is, it was not even a bad bunt but Molina is just so pitifully slow.

In fact on 2nd thought I agree with you that Maddon should have used Forsyth or SRod to bunt and then had Jenning hit for the pitcher.

      • ken says:

So it’s Escobar’s fault Molina was called out?

  4. ken says:

Pitiful. F$$K Joe Maddon and his bedmate Derek Shelton.

Ken, your vulgar rant is mindless. It does not advance our understanding of the Ray’s predicament or offer any insight into possible solutions. I think unfortunately the Ray’s do not have the players who can overcome the adversity the team faces. However, it’s too early to throw in the towel and look to next year.

    • ken says:

I offered a very viable solution,, use Jennings, or any one else but Molina to bunt Escobar over. How about you try and advance our “predicament”? So, we don’t have the players but we shouldn’t give up? Got it, thanks for the non-vulgar piece of idiotic advice.

      • monte says:

Asking you to leave out vulgarity is not idiotic. As to your not making comments that advance discussion, I was not referring to your earlier comments regarding Molina’s bunting. I agree with you in that regard. What we do not need are your vulgar rants.

        • ken says:

Apologies. Heat of the moment post. I’m sick of losing.

          • monte says:

Thank you, Ken. I too am tired and angry at losing, especially since we had such high hopes for this team which at the beginning of the season looked like a possible WS candidate. I still have hopes that things will change, but we’ve lost Myers and Moore for most of the season. Let’s hope Kiermaier becomes a positive surprise. So many negatives have happened, we could certainly use a positive.

            Runs, runs, runs. Go Rays!

  6. Rob says:

Leave it to Molina to bunt into a double play.
