Cole FigueroaPlaying A Little Pepper

Ben Zobrist was placed on the DL today after dislocating his thumb yesterday. Cole Figueroa was promoted from triple-A Durham. Figueroa is a left-handed hitting infielder who can play 2b, 3B, and SS. He even played a little in the outfield last year suggesting the Rays think he can be a utility player at the big league level down the road. This season he is hitting .299 with a .397 OBP (.391 wOBA) with 3 home runs and 1 stolen base. The 3 home runs shows he doesn’t have a lot of power. However, his career high is 5 so he is getting stronger…Alex Cobb will make a rehab start for Charlotte on Saturday as expected. He could return to the Rays as early as next Thursday.

  1. Dave L says:

He essentially has the same defensive coverage as Forsythe, who after 76 ABs at the Major league level granted, has exactly zero home runs, so not alot is better than none. Lets hope someone shines in the fortnight of Zobrists' absence.

  2. Ken says:

Oh well, I guess three in a row was too much to hope for. Anyone up for giving Kirby Yates a shot?
