Evan LongoriaPlaying A Little Pepper

The Rays and Red Sox are scheduled to play a double-header today after last night’s rainout and the Rays don’t sound happy about it. There will open dates that could have been used and with the Rays starting pitching in disarray, a game later in the season would have been better for the Rays. Knowing that, the Red Sox chose a double-header instead. The Red Sox and Cubs are the only two teams who have the power to make that call against the wishes of the opposing team Jake Peavy made 2 starts against the Rays last season, giving up 6 runs in 12.2 innings…Last night’s rainout was the 38th all-time for the Rays and 7th at Fenway Park. Today will be the 22nd double-header in franchise history. The Rays are 3-10-8 all-time in double-headers and 0-3-3 at Fenway Park.

Fenway holds 5,000 more than the Trop. The only reason the Rays would complain publicly is if it is part of an overall strategy and leads to a successful rule change in the future. Otherwise it just looks like whining and we are weak and we know it. If I were a Sox fan i would hand the Rays a hanky and laugh.

Personally if I have the choice I will always choose more Rays baseball over less on any given day.

So you think its fair that two teams out of thirty get this power? Yea that makes sense

I agree with your first paragraph Dave. As to the second paragraph the game will eventually be made up so you are getting the same amount of baseball. If they chose not to schedule a double header today than the Rays could have skipped Bedard’s spot in the rotation.

I dunno Dave. This is almost unwatchable and it’s only the first inning.

Alex- I never said its fair. I am just saying ‘in the moment’ to bitch about a written rule without a ultimate strategy of trying to get the rule changed is counter productive short term. Hence I was arguing the protestations were a long term post 2014 first step to kill rule 8765 B or whatever it was. Sorry this wasnt inferrable.

O Tom- Thanks and Pt 2 was also I was home, have a DVR for fast forwarding and extra potential TV watching time today as well. Many days I have none. Failed to mention that. Sorry. Also as a baseball fan I believe when things look bleakest you usually win and when things are humming you get slapped in the face. Thats baseball.

Drew- Hope for your sake you didn’t bail based on the first 6 outs! Classic baseball game
