Matt JoycePlaying A Little Pepper

The Rays have dropped to 9th in the Power Rankings, but still have a 47.2% chance of making the playoffs…Erik Bedard will make his first start of the season for the Rays. He is also the seventh starting pitcher used by the Rays already…Matt Joyce is hitting third tonight and it has a lot to do with Hiroki Kuroda starting tonight for the Yankees. Joyce is 5-14 (.357) with 3 home runs in his career off of Kuroda…If you want a sign that the Rays offense is going to get better, consider that they are hitting just .259 on balls they hit fair (BABIP), second-worst in baseball. They also have the worst average in baseball (.589) on balls hit hard, more than 100 points below the MLB average (.699) according to Mark Simon of

It's going to be kind of crowded in right field tonight - talk about shifting the defense 😉

  2. ken says:

If Maddon is going to continue to sit Jennings we may as well trade him and get it over with. I'm certain there's a few clubs out there that would be interested.

  3. ken says:

Jennings eats that ball for lunch. Yanks mess with Maddon and shift on Zorilla but not Joyce. Meanwhile the Yanks bash Bedard through 3. No worries, it's early....

  4. ken says:

    Hope springs eternal...Clutch Loney

    OK, everybody breathe....

  6. Rob says:

I have to admit that after it was 4-0 I was pretty much thinking this was another loss. Turned into a really fun game to watch. Funny though, in the first everyone was cheering for Jeter and then he got nothing but boos in his last at bat. Yankees fans were leaving the Trop early.

I was at the game as well. I too was a little down after that 4-0 start. It was a thrill to watch them come back. Yankee fans are sore losers. They show up when their team is on top and when they are losing, they leave...was fun to see run out after their pitcher plunked three of our players!
