Joe MaddonPlaying A Little Pepper

If we assume the catcher platoon to be a single player, the most common lineup last year was used just 5 times. Tonight’s lineup will be the sixth time it has been used this year in just 27 games…Erik Bedard will start for the Rays tonight. Look for him to avoid David Ross who is 2-4 with 2 home runs in his career against Bedard.  Several Rays have hit John Lackey hard including Yunel Escobar (8-15), Ben Zobrist (11-27), Matt Joyce (6-18, 2 HR), and Evan Longoria (9-29, 2 HR).

If you go to Bedards matchups against Sox players with 10 or more ABs. shockingly he does pretty good with the exception of Pierzinski and Napoli.

However he isnt a shadow of what he was so this thing has a Bedard-Bell- Lueke meltdown written all over it. Anything less disasterous will be a pleasant surprise.

We will need at least 3 runs in the first few innings to stay in the game and a minimum of 7 overall to win this game. Escobar, Joyce, Longo Zobrist all own Lackey so they better keep it up.

LOL. We smack Lackey well, Bedard can't throw strikes so the game will probably end 3-2. hopefully a save from Balfour seals it.

Chalk this one up as a management loss. Bedard pitched well, but still 100+ pitches in 5 innings won't cut it. Why Friedman and Maddon decided to go into Boston, then New York without a middle inning lefty specialist must be asked. Joe will say we played well but didn't execute, the Sox dropped in some lucky hits, blah blah blah. He and whiz kid Andy need to be held accountable for their obstinate actions.

Ken your last 2 posts were excellent satirical comic asides during trying times. Thanks.

Hopefully Archer can right the ship.

Thanks Dave. Right now this team is very frustrating to watch. I really was impressed by Bedard's outing. But, Lord, he's got to get his pitch count per inning down. I did think he got screwed by the umps on several calls but that's baseball. Gomes walking two really hurt but, IMO, having Oviedo face AJ and Bradley, two lefties, killed us. Thankfully, for me, I go out of town for the next 18 days and will only get to see the Rays against the Yanks. Going to the Stadium on Saturday and, as luck will have it, I get to see Tanaka. 🙁 One footnote: Durham is now 18-9 and drew over 9K tonight. Go Rays.
