MLB: Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay RaysMatt Moore has a tear in the UCL of his throwing elbow and may need Tommy John surgery according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo.com.

Moore had an MRI on Tuesday after injuring his elbow during Monday’s game in Kansas City. The MRI was called “inconclusive” by the Rays.

Moore will visit Dr. James Andrews either today or tomorrow for further evaluation.

The question now appears to be to determine how big the tear is. If the tear is small enough, Moore may be able to avoid surgery and choose rehab.

Truly sad. A good kid. Nobody goes to Dr. Andrews and doesn't get the surgery.

Jeff Neiman, our nation turns it's lonely heart to you.

I wonder where Jeff Passan got his medical degree and how he got access to Moore's MRI. Maybe Passan should do the surgery since he apparently knows more than Dr. James Andrews.

Passan is guessing as is everyone else. "Involves", "may". Just a bunch of speculation that may or may not be true.

Passan is not guessing. He was told by a source that the UCL is injured. By definition, any injury to a ligament is a tear to some degree, even a minor sprain. Now, if you want to say the source is guessing, that's fine. But I would be surprised if Passan passed that along if it was a source he didn't trust.

More likely he is just trying to be the first to say he needs TJ surgery and if he turns out to be right after the doctor actually looks at him, then he thinks he's a genius. No one ever calls these guys out when they're wrong though.
