Roberto Hernandez made his first start for the Phillies in their spring training opener and he picked up right where he left off with the Rays.

Hernandez, who gave up 24 home runs for the Rays last season, gave up a home run to Jose Bautista in the first inning and it was an absolute bomb. Bautista hit the ball out of Bright House Park.

On a side note, this is not a GIF. It is actually a GFY and you will probably see a lot of these on Rays Index this season. The biggest difference is that the quality should be a lot better and they will load a lot quicker. In addition, if you hover over the GFY, a red arrow will appear with controls that let you pause or change the speed. If your browser does not support GFYs (older and some mobile) it will automatically convert to a GIF.

The difference will be: the Phillies won't give him 25 starts and sabatoge their season with Hernadnez and the Phillies management and fan sites won't be making excuses for him all season.

Anything that travels that far oughta have a damn stewardess on it.

  3. Dave L says:

5th starters usually aren't very pretty and virtually no club is ever satisfied with who they have

With us in 2013 his ERA was under 5 and virtually identical to Sabathias last year and lower than Helli's. Actually his ERA+ (78) was expected as he had 3 years better and 3 years worse actually in the big leagues

There are clubs who would be happy with 150 innings of 4.89 era ball out of their 5th day guy

Hopefully this year we will get better production out of his spot but don't think its a given with one of the young guys.

Love the new video format- it's gonna make everything so much more streamline and more user-friendly. Keep on making a great product even better- you're the man.

(Now I have a little flattery in the bank, so I can afford to find things to complain about...)
