All seven players eligible have filed for arbitration and have until Friday to avoid arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal with the Rays. After that, players can only negotiate long-term deals with the Rays.
Players are eligible to have their salaries determined by an arbitrator if they are not already signed to a long-term contract, have acquired at least three years of service time in the big leagues but less than six years. Those players include David Price, Matt Joyce, Jeremy Hellickson, Sean Rodriguez, Jake McGee, Jose Lobaton, and Cesar Ramos.
You can see how much those players are projected to make through arbitration at this link.
THE JUNKYARD DOGS WEBTOPIA…
- The Rays have signed two more former big leaguers to minor league deals with invitations to spring training. Eddy Rodriguez is a catcher who played two games with the Padres in 2012. He spent the 2013 season in double-A and triple-A hitting .231 with a .271 OBP in 83 games. Justin Christian is an outfielder that has seen limited action in three seasons with the Yankees and Giants. In 2013 he played 107 games at triple-A with the Cardinals hitting .270 with a .332 OBP, 3 home runs and 14 stolen bases. [TampaBay.com]
- Delmon Young is now officially an ex-Ray again as he has signed a 1-year, $1 million deal with the Orioles. He was never a good fit for the Rays despite the need for a right-handed DH. A player with that limited of a skillset works for the Rays in September, but not on a 25-man roster with just four bench spots. [MLBTR]
