The Rays tried hard to blow a 7-0 lead, but they held on in the end and are guaranteed at least a tie-breaker game on Monday.

Both the Indians and Rangers also won their games. That means Cleveland is the first Wild Card team and the Rays and Rangers will play in Arlington on Monday to decide the second Wild Card team. David Price will start for the Rays…

Wow - they never make it easy. I had visions of DeJesus overrunning that fly ball in left in the 9th.

  2. Lane Meyer says:

The Rays need to work on that hammy of Beltre by sending a few early bunts his way.

  3. Mr. Smith 1980 says:

Another nail-biter.... the Rays wouldn't have it any other way.

  4. Beezy says:

I hate to be Nancy Negative because it goes both ways, like if Joyce didn't draw the walk while Da Jesus drove in the run against Texas w/ 2 outs & 2 strikes, BUT if Rodney would gotten the last out of any of those 2 out 2 strikes blown saves in the 9th situations, we would be going straight to Cleveland instead... #163strong

Or if the umpire hadn't called a pitch 6 inches off the plate and 2 inches off the ground a strike in Texas earlier this season or the AL West wasn't so pathetic as to have the Rangers playing 20-something games less against winning teams we'd be packing for Cleveland. Frustrating.

      • Ken says:

Actually with one more win by the Rays, we would be hosting the WC instead of going to Texas or Cleveland. We won the season series with the Tribe, So having one more win we would have the same record as the Tribe and thus hosted the game this Wednesday.
