Playing A Little Pepper

The Rays will play an exhibition game in Montgomery next spring…Reminder: tonight’s triple-A championship game with the Durham Bulls will be on national TV (NBC Sports Network, 7pm)…The Rays have used 135 different lineups this season. That is a lot, but it is just the third-most under Joe Maddon and there is no way they will catch last year’s total of 151…One reason the lineup total is not as high as it might seem is because the Rays are the only team in the big leagues that has used just two catchers. Of the other 29 teams, 18 have used at least four catchers and seven have used at least five. The Mariners lead the way with seven different players that have played at least one inning at catcher this season.
