Playing A Little Pepper

Tonight’s game will also be on ESPN…The Rays are hitless in their last 10 at bats with the bases loaded and have just 2 hits in their last 20 at bats with the bases full, with a whopping 7 double-plays. The Rays have also hit into 39 double-plays in their last 31 games and have at least one in 18 of their last 20 games…David Price has a 5.95 strikeout-to-walk ratio, best in the AL this season. Anything over 3.0 is considered good. Since he returned from the DL, his ratio in 14 starts is 10.25 strikeouts for every walk. Only two starting pitchers have had a K:BB ratio of at least 10.0 in the history of baseball (Bret Saberhagen 11.00 in ’94 and Cliff Lee 10.28 in ’10).

    Venom Time:

This team just isn't ready to compete. I've had a love affair with the manager, just like the rest of you, and I'm ending it right here. I'm finished. Done! This is deer in the headlights baseball. Whatever baseball. No repercussions baseball. Something is wrong with this team. They play like they are blunt-glazed stoners without any paternal supervision. Price is dominant? When? Where? Last night? Please. Longo looks like he's sleep-walking. And a 500. pitcher to boot. I'm finished with the eccentric approaches to the game, the cute shifts, the sabermetric bullshit, the small market excuses. This team needs a dragon spitting fire out of its ass managing it. Take a year off, Joe, bike through wine country, drink the finest merlots, and let's find a manager that holds this team accountable, because this is hard to watch. I mean really hard to watch....

I was at the game tonight and man what a rough game. Incredibly frustrating first 5 innings. 0-2 tonight with the bases loaded but only because Drew made an excellent play in the 3rd on Jennings grounder in the hole. Hard to have an inning with 3 walks and a hit and not score but the Rays maaged to do it..

I was actually encouraged by the way they fought back to tie the game against some tough relievers. Even in the botom of the 10th they still put up some good AB's. Longo and Loney both hit the ball hard. Funny, the last game I went to was the 2nd game of the Yankee's series when Price won. The next day is when this 4-13 stretch started. The Rays fortunes sure have changed in the past 17 Games.

Still, I do not see the Rays missing the playoffs as inevitable. They showed fight tonight. Another thing to watch is Texas was just swept by the Pirates and are only 3 ahead of the Rays. If the Rays play well this weekend and thent ake 3 of 4 or sweep the Ranger they could be in first place in the wild card..

Price, Moore, Archer, and Cobb are the 4 best SPs the Rays have had this year.

Rays fans, that whooshing sound you heard about 45 minutes ago came from a generation of area youngsters leaving the Rays in the dust while they search for another another form of sporting entertainment. They won't be back.
The next whooshing sound you hear will be made by MLB, swooping in to move this team to greener pastures while Merlot Joe looks on sipping on a glass of red.
