Playing A Little Pepper

Public Service Announcement: Over the next few days, you will hear a lot of things around baseball such as “Miguel Cabrera is the first player to ever have 30 home runs and 90 RBI before the All-Star break” or “Matt Moore is the 6th youngest pitcher to win 13 games before the All-Star break since 1975.” What these people are either ignoring or don’t realize is that the All-Star break is really late this year. The Rays will play 96 games before the break. The Red Sox will play 97. Most teams will play 94-97. Up until this season, teams would typically play 85-90 games before the break. That’s an extra start for starting pitchers and an extra 30-40 plate appearances for hitters.

  1. Rob says:

At the game. Price just finished the 5th. Has thrown 46 strikes and 6 balls. Crazy strike:ball ratio of 88% so far.

    • Rob says:

Price just threw a complete game in 87 pitches and 80% of those were strikes. Too bad the offense didn't show up against a guy making his debut.
