Playing A Little Pepper

The Rays will finish the first half of the season with ten straight games at The Trop against the White Sox, Twins, and Astros, three teams that are a combined 101-149 and 39 games out of first place…Since a stretch of 7 straight games in which the starting pitchers failed to pitch 6 innings, the starters have now gone at least 6 innings in 13 of the last 15 games…The Rays have committed just 1 error in their last 10 games…One red flag to keep an eye is the Rays’ ability to hit with runners in scoring position. After hitting just .243 in those situations in 2012, they are hitting .290 this season, the best mark in the AL. Chances are they won’t be able to keep up that pace since they are hitting just .260 overall. And that means the Rays’ offense is probably not as good as their 4.7 runs per game (7th in MLB) suggests.
